Earlier this year, Alexandra Schulman, long-time editor of British Vogue, announced to step down after 25 years. Speculations about who would take over started right away, as the news was dropped during couture fashion week in Paris, just one month after the death of Vogue Italia editor, Franca Sozzani.
Industry names such as Emily Sheffield (Deputy Editor of British Vogue), Katie Grand (Editor of LOVE magazine) and Jo Ellison (Fashion Editor at the Financial Times) have been rumoured, but today Edward Enninful has been officially announced as the new editor of British Vogue.
Edward Enninful started his fashion editing career at the fragile age of 19, when he was hired as Fashion Director of i-D magazine in 1991. He was awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth last year, and in 2014 was named fashion creator of the year by the British Fashion Council. Currently he is holding the position of Creative and Fashion Director of American magazine W, until he will take over as Editor of British Vogue on August 1st.
