For the launch of their Sicilian Christmas Markets, Harrods opened their doors for their first ever fashion show, with none other than Italian designers Dolce and Gabbana.
Harrods teamed up with Dolce and Gabbana to transform their store into a haven for the traditional Italian Christmas. Alongside the Sicilian Christmas Market theme, the windows of Harrod’s have also been inspired by Italy and decorated with animated puppets, disco balls and cuckoo clocks. The shift from last year’s ‘A Very British Fairytale’ which saw Harrods partnering with Burberry, to this year’s traditional Italian feel has come in full force.
Each of the window displays on the famous Brompton Road have been inspired by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s own Christmases and will feature pieces from their designs. This year, however, Harrods decided to step it up further with a Dolce and Gabbana catwalk show in the food court. The show was called “The Sun in a London Night” and included a full take-over of Harrod’s, turning the shop into a Christmas wonderland which perfectly brought together Italian tradition and the British Christmas spirit.
The collection includes intricate gowns and dresses, with lace, large floral prints and fruit motifs, fitting in perfectly to the surroundings in the Harrods food market.
There was also a definite British theme to the collection which screamed royalty, quite literally with “QUEEN” emblazoned onto dresses and belts, paying homage to Britishness. This was further emphasised by Union Jack hearts, flower crowns and military guard style dresses and clothing.
Dolce and Gabbana, in conjunction with the release of their new book ‘Millenials’ called upon 100 young millennial influencers to walk and attend ‘The Sun in a London Night’ at Harrods. This included the likes of Lady Kitty Spencer, Lady Tatiana Mountbatten, Tom Brady, Pixie Lott and her boyfriend Olivier Cheshire, to name a few. The Dolce and Gabbana show propelled Harrods into the Christmas spirit and made the opening of the Christmas themed market just a little bit more magical this year.
