Considering the current world scenario, scattered with uncertainties and fear towards unknown future developments, the need to sanctuary escape reality has become a strong necessity for a great number of people. The Londoner brand Minki has definitely embraced such feelings during last week’s LFW and has invited everyone to join a semi-magical catwalk where its designs transport the wearers into a less frightening reality.
As a vehicle to reach this parallel playful fantasy, Minki SS18 is, in fact, a collection based on dreams and on their contemplation. Through unexpected silhouettes in between masculinity and femininity, avatar-esque make-ups and a refined, yet edgy, core, these designs speak both on a high-end fashion level and on a more simplistic one.
Moreover, the collection’s dreamy undertone is beautifully transpiring from the flowing fabrics, the bold patterns, and the flamboyant symmetries. At the same time, however, the other facet of these creations resembles workwear garments, almost as if they were to maintain a link with the actual world. Almost as if they were to make us believe it’s a dream more close to reality than we would expect.
When denim, PVC, nylon, drawstrings, and tulle appear together in a collection is always intriguing for sure so, despite one’s personal taste and style, the positive message embedded in Minki SS18 has to be appreciated and shared as much as possible. Who said we can play, be free, and happy only in dreams?
