LFWM17 Bobby Abley SS18

As we all know, Bobby Abley is known for blending nostalgic and playful imagery with a contemporary menswear design. Though many brands have trouble to stand out from the crowd, Bobby Abley makes it look effortlessly easy to create the most impeccable shows. Launching his namesake label in 2012, he received a place on the prestigious MAN catwalk for the inaugural London Collections Men. Bobby Abley is one of the breakthrough menswear names of recent years and now part of the NEWGEN platform from the London design studio.

The animation inspired designs of the SS18 collection are like no other we’ve seen elsewhere this season. Showing both men’s and womenswear, the designer sent his models down the runway with Teletubbie wigs, green fur and Dalmatian-suits, in a show that brought us back to the heroes of our childhood. The stuffed teddy bears as handbags might have been a reference to the recent return of the man-bag, as well as the fanny pack, which made an unexpected comeback on the runways in Milan last year. The collection featured various elements and different styles from both the 80s and 90s including man-skirts and punk hair, though the obvious theme throughout the designs were instantly recognisable from the firmly established brand.
