“Looking for a vocation in the decline of civilisation”

In a bid to make sense of the world’s current state, Liam Hodges turns to science-fiction in particular, Escape From New York, Total Recall and A Clockwork Orange. He uses sci-fi references to empower the rebellious themes throughout the collection, setting the backdrop for ‘Dystopia Lives’ hinting of a mutual understanding that darkness can’t be beaten.

The use of forest, olive, and acid greens formed the colour palette for the collection. Camo print long-sleeve tops, chunky jackets and painted jeans combined with recurring motifs featuring “Ideology is a myth” and “This Year” on matching military trousers and tops. Hodge’s introduces the innovation in the design of knit trousers and jumpers, showcasing an array of flat knits, small rib, big rib, and horizontal rib knits. The collection also plays on practicality, featuring padded salopette style trousers with removable pockets.

Dystopian references are further explored through the collaboration with Christys’, the British hatmakers and their creative director Noel Stewart. This merges an informal bucket style with a white take on the City gent’s bowler, reminiscent of the bowlers worn by the droogs in Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange.

This season’s prints took inspiration from Total Recall’s greatest icon, Mary the triple breasted sex worker. Liam’s personal photos of China, further inspired prints throughout the collection. The use of sci-fi reference and military influence evoke a post-apocalyptic, dystopian vibe. Fitting in perfectly with the overall aesthetic.
