During his studies at the Tama Art University, where he started experimenting with shoe design, before launching his first collection under the eponymous label ‘MIHARAYASUHIRO’ in 1996. Mihara first took part in Milano Collection in 2006 and has continuously participated in Paris Collection from 2007. The SS09 collection was chosen by Mensstyle.com as one of the TOP 10 greatest Men’s designer collections shown in Paris. MIHARAYASUHIRO receives a high evaluation in the world due to its uniqueness and highly designed details which can be seen not only in shoes but in his apparel collections.
Mihara Yasuhiro is the first Japanese designer to show on schedule at London Fashion Week Men’s, where he presented his Spring/Summer 2018 collection ♯BLANK MIRRORS. With his SS18 collection, Mihara refers to today’s form of communication through electronic devices and our obsession with social media and #hashtags. People are constantly typing away busily on their laptops and smartphones, interacting with strangers in a never-ending stream of information. Mihara drew inspiration from the “blank mirror”, the black screen that appears when the devices are finally switched off.
Mihara’s view on the hashtag frenzy has been projected onto a fictitious music group, #BLANK MIRRORS. A little nerdy, they represent an antithesis to the “Insta-addict”, adorned in mocking patches and stickers. He translated this into the collection, that has kind of a sporty but laid-back vibe, with volume, denim, contrasting fabrics and lengths, which made the #hashtag statements and prints across various pieces blend in effortlessly. The entire collection came together as a united union with both the male and female pieces, his models walked in what I feel is safe to say a collection that’s wearable for every gender.
