Unbound is the title of Alexis Carballosa’s visionary collection for London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 17. Inspired by the unexplored, the sea and it’s limitless sources, Carballosa brought to life a sort of underwater world. For Carballosa, there is no such thing as conventions.
Ruffled skirts, blazers and dresses in turquoise and deep blues with metallic accents stunned the audience. Think models with seaweed hair and fishnet prints on black capes and chiffon trains. Matching algae-type headpieces were hand-made from recycled plastics. Tulle skirts and gossamer fabrics in greens and blues shimmered and echoed the fluidity of oceans. Carballosa, an advocate for sustainability, is known for his involvement in environmental projects and used repurposed materials for the accessories in the show.
It was a myriad of show-stopping pieces with the finale taking a darker turn with black gazar silks and exaggerated shoulders. If this is breaking down conventions for Carballosa, his next collection cannot disappoint.
