New allegations have been made against Kevin Spacey following Netflix’s decision to cut all ties with the House of Cards actor. The past week has seen a build-up of accusations towards Spacey containing sexual misconduct and harassment. Just today, Harry Dreyfuss son of actor Richard Dreyfuss accused Spacey of inappropriately touching him whilst his father was in the same room. The claims from Dreyfuss also date back to 2008 whilst his father Richard was rehearsing for the play Complicit. Richard was told about the incident involving his son many years later. Dreyfuss has since described Spacey as “sexual predator” who felt “safe” to abuse as he was sure he “wouldn’t say a word”. Spacey’s lawyer Bryan Freedman has said that the actor “absolutely denies the allegations” made by Dreyfuss.
These recent claims contribute to an alleged sexual abuse scandal against Spacey.
The number of claims continues to rise following actor Anthony Rapp’s claim that Spacey made sexual advances towards him when he was just 14 years old. These allegations date back to 1986 whilst the pair were at a party at Spacey’s residence.
In a public apology, Spacey claimed he had no recollection of the incident, but apologized if such ‘drunken behaviour’ occurred. He used his statement to officially come out as gay.
Spacey has not commented since his apology and is yet to be charged with any crime. Since the apology, his publicist and agency have also cut ties with the actor.
Amid other allegations, London police have said to be investigating Spacey for a sexual assault dating back to 2008. CNN is among others to report Spacey’s behaviour as ‘predatory’. Up to eight current or former workers described his production a ‘toxic’ workplace; with one individual claiming Spacey sexually assaulted him.
With 5 seasons under his belt and a net worth of $100 million, one of the highest-paid celebrities in Hollywood will no longer play the role of president in series 6. Spacey was set to earn $10 million from season 6 of House of Cards alone.
Netflix has also dropped Spacey’s upcoming production gore, a biopic based on the life of writer Gore Vidal. Netflix released the following statement: “will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with MRC (production company Media Rights Capital) during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show. “We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore
“We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey.”
Actor Danny Masterson will still be working with Netflix despite multiple rape allegations. Netflix has said that until ‘developments occur’ they will continue working together. A very illogical decision. On Nov 2 the case against Masterson had stalled, regardless of ‘overwhelming evidence’. Which has left us baffled over Masterson’s immunity.
