Trendsetting Cities : Starting with Moscow we Take Travel Inspiration from the Catwalks

Looking for travel inspiration; somewhere not too obvious, but still with a big dose of cool contemporary culture? Take inspiration from the SS17 catwalks. The first on our list of trendsetting cities to explore is Moscow. Of course, inspired firstly by the one and only Gosha Rubchinsky. King of the upmarket sportswear, we are expecting a lot of shaved heads and club kids, an equal obsession with Fila and the type of money that keeps designers alive. And Vodka, most certainly. What else does Moscow have to offer?

Moscow, the capital of Russia, in its centre contains around twice the population of London. One of the main attractions of this grand city is the mix of classical and post-Soviet architecture. While it is reported to be the 9th most expensive city in the world, it’s always a cheap place to sample the street food of Blinis (thin pancakes), Cheburek (meat pastries) and Ponckiki (small doughnuts often served in paper cones.

In the art scene, the biggest and best museums is the Tsetyakov Gallery. With the world’s largest collection of Russian art, it is worth checking out for its 170,000-piece strong collection. Highlights include the collection of 20th century art from the likes of Kandinsky and Malevich. Also, check out concept store, café and gallery KM20. As well as picking up some Gosha, they stock Fenty x Puma and cool publisher Idea books.

Take advantage of the abundant parks by renting a bike, finding some outdoor theatre or joining the growing outdoor party scene. While you can easily take Uber for those night time expeditions, checking out the underground Metro interiors before you leave is a must. Start the night with food at Delicatessen for deconstructed fun or Varenichnaya No 1, for traditional fare and retro soviet vibes. As a city that never sleeps, there is a café or club for everyone. For dancing and Techno don’t miss NII or Garage Club for R&B – this soviet era reincarnation hosts the official weekend early morning after parties.
